Under general supervision, performs building cleaning and custodial tasks of average difficulty, as assigned
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Empties waste receptacles and properly disposes of trash.
Operates commercial vacuums to clean rugs and floors; empties dust receptacles in vacuums in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Dusts furniture, blinds, vents, baseboards, doors, floors, and appliances.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including sinks, commodes, mirrors, floors, and walls.
Replenishes paper products and other bathroom supplies.
Operates carpet cleaners and buffers, including scrubbers; removes old wax from floors; applies wax and buffs floors.
Cleans and polishes metal fixtures including door handles, exterior building fixtures, and water faucets.
Cleans all glass doors and windows on the inside and the outside where employees can reach.
Spot cleans carpets when necessary.
Maintains supplies on custodial cart.
Utilizes cleaning chemicals in accordance with instructions.
Lowers, folds, and stores county-owned flags.
Turns off lights and insures all doors and windows are locked before leaving building.
Moves furniture and office equipment, as assigned.
Reports stopped sinks and commodes or other problems to the supervisor in a timely manner.
May function as a lead worker over one or more employees assigned to a project; performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of building cleaning, carpet maintenance, and floor waxing procedures.
Ability to perform light to medium level labor work; ability to operate a full range of custodial equipment; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to work independently and complete work assignment as scheduled; ability to interact effectively with co-workers, County employees, and others; ability to function effectively as a lead worker over others.
Skill in the operation of custodial equipment in a safe manner.
Physical Requirements and Work Setting:
Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned environment; prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; visual acuity and manual dexterity required.
Education and/or Experience Required:
Three months of custodial experience in commercial buildings or facilities.
Certificates and Licenses:
None required.
Additional Requirements:
Incumbents assigned to the Juvenile Detention Center must be able to pass a criminal background check with no disqualifying criminal history indicated.
