What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Administrator position at Tom McLeod Software Corporation?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supports all data products, both internal and external.
- Identifies database requirements; analyzes applications, programming, and operations; evaluates existing systems and designs proposed systems.
- Works closely with the Systems and Infrastructure teams to identify issues and create innovative solutions to problems that arise.
- Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
- Installs revised or new IT solutions by proposing specifications and flowcharts, recommending optimum access techniques, and coordinating installation requirements.
- Monitors performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users and back-end processes.
- Maps the logical design for planned databases.
- Performs database development using a wide range of tools, including SSIS, SSAS, T-SQL, PL-SQL.
- Supports engagement managers and developers/vendors in implementation phases of the McLeod Solutions in such areas of application development, troubleshooting, and testing.
- Prepares and presents design proposals to clients.
- Produces detailed technical drawings.
- Provides database performance administration and guidance.
Competencies:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred, or education and equivalent work experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of one or more SQL-based database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2)
- Microsoft SQL, Oracle, DB2 certifications are strongly preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Education/Experience:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred, or education and equivalent work experience.
Language Ability:

Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, peers, or members of the business community. Ability to write communications and documentation that is grammatically correct for routine business correspondence.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions with abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, and comprehensive knowledge of one or more SQL-based database systems (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2).
Certificates and Licenses:
Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and/or DB2 certifications strongly preferred.
