JOB SUMMARY
The groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the Tomah Health campuses at the highest level of aesthetics. They are required to perform general maintenance to buildings and grounds to include mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, mulching, and painting/staining in the spring – fall seasons. During the snow and ice seasons the groundskeeper is responsible for assuring the parking lots are cleared of snow and ice. The groundskeeper will perform all types of functions including but not limited to cleaning, equipment operations, vehicle and equipment cleaning and minor maintenance, wall and window cleaning. Miscellaneous duties would include running errands.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
- Maintains all hospital owned grounds using proper techniques, materials and equipment.
- Handles all types of refuse and transports to proper medical waste storage or sanitary refuse storage.
- Performs various housekeeping duties in assigned areas.
- Prioritizes personal assignments and responds in a timely manner to meet deadlines.
- Troubleshoots the causes of malfunctions and performs routine service to power equipment.
- Reports to the central labor pool to assist as needed to all fire and disaster codes.
- Cooperates and assists the Facility Services Director in completing routine and special assignments.
- Keeps the maintenance garage, storage area and all equipment in a clean, neat and orderly fashion.
- Follows safety guidelines related to body mechanics, hazardous materials, protective devices, etc.
- Participates in staff meetings and appropriate in-services.
- Orients new staff to the unit environment as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
- Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress and with minimal supervision.
- Three to four years experience in the Groundskeeper field preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects.
- The Groundskeeper is constantly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The Groundskeeper is frequently required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- The Groundskeeper must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and able to occasionally move objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
- Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
- Visual acuity is needed to perform essential functions of the job.
- Basic reading and writing skills are needed in order to read and interpret instructions and to handle simple record keeping.
