PRIMARY PURPOSE :
The technician is responsible for the performance of necessary repairs and upkeep of Tomball ISD district vehicles. The technician also works on projects assigned by the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor following established procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum Education / Certification
Ability to pass Drug and Alcohol Test
High School Diploma or GED
Two or more current ASE / TASBT Certifications preferred
Capable of obtaining and maintaining a Texas School Bus Driver Certification card
Valid CDL-Class A or B with Air Brake, P and S endorsements or obtain in a timely
manner
Minimum Experience
Three years mechanical experience
Current training on auto / truck maintenance and repair systems
Special Knowledge / Skills
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with minimal
supervision
Ability to operate all shop equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
Ability to utilize and understand diagnostic tools and information
Other :
Must provide own hand tools
Successfully complete a criminal background check
Successfully complete a motor vehicle record check
Successfully complete a physical examination by a district appointed health
professional
Successfully complete pre-employment and subsequent random drug testing
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Perform repairs on maintenance equipment and vehicles
- Diagnose and repair district vehicles as needed
- Maintain orderly and clean assigned shop bay and adjacent area
- Maintain individual toolbox
- Record repairs performed on vehicles, parts used, and time taken to make repairs
- Operate all shop equipment as necessary
- Promote safety and report all unsafe conditions
- Work hours as assigned
- Perform District-Mandated preventive maintenance on district vehicles as assigned
- Change buses and route numbers if regularly assigned bus is out of service
- Comply with safety regulations
- Make road calls for disabled district vehicles when necessary
- Perform minor body repair
- Carry district cell phone and be on call for after hour field trips
