What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science Content Specialist – Middle School - Curriculum and Instruction position at Tomball ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Provide data-driven coaching and support to classroom teachers ensuring the effective and efficient development and delivery of high-quality, inquiry-based curriculum and instructional programs. Align efforts with district goals that support the Tomball ISD Mission and Vision, while prioritizing and enhancing student achievement through research-based best practices in science education.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of science curriculum design and implementation
Ability to analyze data, create assessments, and demonstrate instructional decision-making
Ability to evaluate instruction programs, curriculum implementation, instructional effectiveness, and student performance trends
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with STEM integration and cross-disciplinary instructional strategies
Experience:
Three years of teaching experience
Experience leading professional development, coaching teachers, or mentoring in an instructional capacity (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Staff Development
- Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and student learning.
- Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through instructional coaching, modeling, and job-embedded professional learning.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom.
- Provide feedback regarding teacher effectiveness in accordance with established district programs to the building principal.
- Plan and provide high quality professional development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
Instructional and Program Management
- Develop and align district science assessments and ensure instructional alignment with state accountability measures.
- Develop standards aligned curriculum resources, intervention strategies, and differentiated instructional materials as needed.
- Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
Other
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with district Science Director, Campus Administration, and instructional leadership teams regarding student achievement trends, curriculum implementation, and teacher support needs.
- Collaborate in planning classroom management and instructional strategies that promote equitable learning opportunities.
