Manager –
- Administer all aspects of the training program, including employment and termination of employees, as well as education and training of center maritime students.
- Supervise Seamanship Program Instructors and ensure compliance with government and management directives including career technical training instruction, direction, and assistance in designated area of instruction (Deck or Engineering) in a safe environment. Ensure full compliance with all NMC program certifications.
- Track and monitor staff training and maritime credentials to keep the program current and compliant.
Chief Engineer & Engineer Instructor –
- This position will serve as Chief Engineer on Tongue Point Job Corps training vessels (Ironwood and Columbia) during underway training with students (1-2 times/week).
- Manage and mentor engineering students, ensuring quality and adherence to curriculum guidelines.
- Curriculum delivery: Design lessons and practicums that adhere to the USCG-approved engineering curriculum.
Deck Instructor –
- Deck Instructors serve as operating crew when training students underway on our training vessels. Instructors serve as Mates, Boatswains, and Deckhands while teaching students on the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean.
- Curriculum delivery: Design lessons and practicums that adhere to the USCG-approved AB-Limited curriculum.
Requirements:
- Manager - Valid Masters License of 1600 ton NC/Oceans, STCW95 BST, Able Seaman, and shall have served as a Master on qualifying vessels for a minimum of three years. Must be approved by the US Coast Guard, G-MVP, for employment at a Coast Guard-approved training facility and the requirements for vocational training instructors of the US Department of Labor and the State of Oregon.
- Chief Engineer & Engineer Instructor – Unlimited License: Valid national or international Chief Engineer certification. Deck Instructor - Valid and current Merchant Mariner Credential. Teaching or Training Certification: Qualification in training or instructing through a USCG-certified Train the Trainer Course.
STCW Certification: Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) endorsement specific to engineering, including advanced safety and firefighting. Sea Experience: Extensive experience at sea in progressively responsible engineering roles, typically including prior experience as a Chief Engineer. Leadership and Management Training: Certification in maritime leadership or management, as required by STCW. Teaching or Training Certification: Qualification in training or instructing through a USCG-certified Train the Trainer Course. First Aid and CPR Certification. Medical Fitness Certificate: Up-to-date medical certificate confirming fitness for duty at sea.
