Position: Controller Location: Tonto Verde Association, Rio Verde, Arizona Employment Type: Full-Time
Overview
Tonto Verde Association (TVA) is seeking an experienced and innovative Controller to oversee the Association’s financial operations. Reporting directly to the GM/Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Controller will manage all financial, accounting, and reporting activities, ensuring transparency, financial sustainability, and operational efficiency. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring strong communication skills to effectively interact with the Finance & Investment Committee (FIC), and Board of Directors (BOD).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Lead all day-to-day financial operations, including billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting, ensuring alignment with the Association’s strategic goals.
- Ensure that TVA has the systems and procedures to support accurate, effective financial reporting and compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize Excel for financial analytics, creating data-driven reports that support financial decision-making.
- Present financial information clearly and effectively to the Board, GM/COO, and FIC, using graphics and visual tools to enhance understanding.
- Maintain internal financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial transactions.
Audit, Compliance & Investment Oversight
- Coordinate and manage annual audits in collaboration with the Audit Task Force.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and timely filing of tax and financial reports.
- Collaborate with the Investment Committee to monitor and track investment performance, ensuring adherence to policies and long-term financial objectives.
Budgeting, Reserve Planning & Capital Investment
- Work closely with the Finance & Investment Committee to develop and monitor the operating and capital budgets.
- Maintain and update the Reserve Study, ensuring accurate capital needs assessments and long-term funding strategies.
- Manage TVA’s cash flow forecasting and short-term investments, optimizing financial stability.
Technology & Innovation in Financial Operations
- Utilize Jonas Club Software for financial reporting, accounting, and operational analytics.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in financial operations.
- Leverage technology to create interactive financial presentations that simplify complex data for the BOD and management team.
Communication & Leadership
- Serve as a key financial advisor to the GM/COO, Board, and FIC, ensuring informed decision-making.
- Communicate complex financial data clearly, concisely, and visually, making information accessible to stakeholders.
- Foster a collaborative and transparent work environment, engaging with staff and community members on financial matters.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA is strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of financial management experience, preferably in a country club, HOA, or hospitality setting.
- Experience in Jonas Club Software is strongly preferred but not required.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling, budgeting, and data analysis.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial information through clear reports and graphical visuals.
- Expertise in financial planning, cash flow management, reserve fund tracking, and investment oversight.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
