Tooele City is seeking volunteers to serve on our Library Board of Directors.
Our nine-member library board is an advisory body designed to represent a variety of community members. When selecting new members, the City seeks broad representation in the following areas: community involvement, profession, gender, ethnicity, culture, perspective, and professional or personal involvement with regard to library services.
The library board meets quarterly in the evenings.
Tooele City's Mayor appoints members of the board with consent of the City Council. Members serve three-year terms, renewable once. Regular terms begin July 1.
Basic expectations of every board member:
- Serve as an advocate for the Tooele City Library and an ambassador for library service at every opportunity
- Promote library services and needs within the constituency of the library
- Prepare for and attend quarterly meetings
- Propose rules and regulations for use of the Tooele City Public Library
- Be a personal user of library services
- In public, support decisions made by the majority of board members, even if you are part of a minority position
- Serve on committees as volunteered for or assigned by the Chair
- Adhere to Utah Library laws
- Actively support organized efforts regarding legislation that may affect libraries on a federal, state, or local level
- Abstain from any action or decision that could be construed as a conflict of interest
- Keep abreast of national and regional standards of library service and library trends

If selected to fill a volunteer position, you may be required to provide additional information or undergo a background check. You are required to follow the City's and the library's policies and procedures. You may be required to obtain specific training relevant to your assigned volunteer position. Volunteers serve for civic, humanitarian, and charitable purposes without compensation, benefits, or reimbursement for expenses but are added to Tooele City's workers compensation and general liability insurance policy. There is no expectation of continued service and volunteers serve at the pleasure of the City and can be released with our without cause at any time.
