What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Attorney I-III position at Tooele County?
The Opportunity
Under general guidance and direction from the County Attorney, Deputy Attorney will perform professional legal work in civil or criminal matters and cases in the County Attorney's Office.
Example of Duties:
- Provide legal advice and prepare formal legal opinions on a wide range of issues for county departments.
- Research legal issues; draft/review ordinances, contracts, and other documents.
- Talk to and consult with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers.
- Attend court hearings, board and public meetings.
- Prepare and file complaints and other court pleadings and documents.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Attorney I- $44.02: Juris doctorate degree with 0-5 years practicing law.
- Attorney II- $52.42: Juris doctorate degree with 6-13 years practicing law.
- Attorney III-$57.14: Juris doctorate degree with 14 or more years practicing law.
AND
- Maintain an active license to practice law in the state of Utah.
- Be a Utah State Bar member in good standing as of November 1, 2024.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have a working knowledge of criminal and civil laws and state statutes; a working knowledge of court procedures and rules of evidence; and a working knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods used in legal research. Must also have the ability to apply legal principles and knowledge to individual cases and problems; the ability to analyze and evaluate facts and evidence and to apply them to specific situations and circumstances; the ability to work effectively with county employees, other agencies, judges, clerks, and the public; the ability to follow written and verbal instructions; the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; and the ability to effectively present cases to judges and juries.
