What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Clerk Summer Intern position at Tooele County?
Under general guidance and direction from the County Attorney, performs legal research and professional duties in prosecuting for the State of Utah and Tooele County, and in defending Tooele County.
Example of Duties:
Conducts legal research for cases, prepares legal opinions, drafts legal documents, prosecutes misdemeanor cases and county civil actions pursuant to the Law Student Assistance Rule, and performs all duties of a deputy attorney as permitted under the Canons of Ethics and Utah State Law. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have a working knowledge of criminal and civil laws and of state statutes; working knowledge of court procedures and rules of evidence; and working knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods used in legal research.
- Have the ability to apply legal principles and knowledge to individual cases and problems; the ability to analyze and evaluate facts and evidence and to apply them to individual cases and problems; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; the ability to follow written and verbal instructions; and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ideal applicant will be working toward a J.D. of Law.
