GENERAL PURPOSE :
Performs various supervisory, administrative, and technical tasks related to facilities irrigation, grounds, landscaping, mowing, and event management of The Peak Complex. This is a working supervisor position with supervisorial responsibilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED :
Works under the supervision of the Parks Operations Manager and Parks and Recreation Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
Provides supervision to volunteer personnel, facility patrons and parks and recreation maintenance staff.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES :
Serves as a Peak Complex supervisor over landscape, grounds, irrigation, mowing, and turf maintenance. Prepares timecards for payroll; maintains and records leave and vacation status for parks and recreation maintenance staff . Maintains employee work schedule for full and part-time maintenance employees and volunteer groups.
Assist the Parks Operations Manager with the recruitment of temporary, seasonal, and full-time staff, which includes interviewing, selecting, and training employees; supervise designated maintenance staff; assign tasks; delegate responsibility and follow up on assignments; ensure assignments are completed.
Must be able to train and coach employees; required to implement operational policies and procedures; monitor record keeping; review and submit timecards; responsible for annual performance reviews; handle employee complaints and grievances; and recommend disciplinary actions following County policy.
Assists in supervising all maintenance and event operations at the Peak Complex. Coordinates with Parks and Recreation Management, events, patrons, complex users, contractors, and other governmental agencies.
Ensures employee productivity and effective resource use. Prioritizes projects, estimates time and materials required, and assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of certain Peak Complex employees.
Responding to public complaints, concerns, and inquiries from facility users, spectators, and the public by documenting and taking appropriate action to resolve issues of importance and consequence.
Assists in all event set-up, execution, and tear-down.
Assists in maintaining accurate records of equipment as county assets. Maintains, secures, and ensures proper and safe use.
This is a working supervisor position. The incumbent assists maintenance staff and others in performing their duties as assigned, especially with respect to event preparation, event staffing, operations, and snow removal.
Skills in operating light and heavy construction equipment; skill in estimating time, material, and cost requirements; skill in the use of hand tools.
Interacts with community groups, schools, businesses, federal and state agencies and others to promote, organize and obtain sponsorship for events and venues. Assists in promoting public awareness of facilities; distributes related printed materials as applicable.
Ability to travel.
Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience
- Graduation from high school and two (2) years related to maintenance, construction, trade work, pool operations, irrigation, and supervisory skills through professionally sponsored workshops, college or vocational studies, or in service.
- Five (1) general supervisory experience, knowledge of county government operations and purchasing and contract management expertise.
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
- Must have an applicator's license or have the ability to get one within six months of hire.
- Demonstrate ability to Supervise and manage all Facilities Management Employees / Contractors and the public using Deseret Peak Complex.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and abilities
Knowledge of current turf, grounds, landscaping, and irrigation maintenance standards and practices.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, organize and direct other employees, develop and maintain a close working relationship with other government officials, employees, agencies, volunteers, the public, and fellow workers, and understand the operation and safety of various types of equipment. Ability to deal effectively and maintain good working relationships with other employees, private contractors, and members of the public; ability to think and act independently.
Work Environment
Ability to perform heavy labor for extensive periods; ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wind; willing to work flexible shifts, holidays, and weekends. Mental applications utilize memory for details, verbal instructions, and problem-solving.
