The Job
We are looking for a bilingual (Spanish-English) U.S. History tutor to work in-person with small groups of high school students (1-4 per group) at a Brooklyn high school. Students are English as a New Language (ENL) learners who need targeted support as they prepare for the U.S. History Regents exam.
Our tutoring model emphasizes structured, skill-building instruction that helps students grasp key historical concepts while also developing the study strategies they need to succeed.
Tutors will work approximately 20 hours per week, across 3 days per week, providing push-in support during the school day. The position pays $33/hour.

Responsibilities
- Provide engaging, structured U.S. History instruction in small-group settings
- Support students in key historical themes, critical thinking skills, and Regents exam preparation
- Adapt instruction to Spanish-speaking students, using bilingual explanations and scaffolding techniques to ensure comprehension
- Integrate study skills strategies (e.g., active reading, note-taking, essay organization, test-taking techniques) into sessions
- Take daily attendance using a personal device (mobile phone) or a school-issued laptop
- Communicate professionally with school staff and Toolkit Tutors leadership

Requirements
We are looking for tutors who meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (completed or near completion with strong academic performance)
- At least one year of experience teaching or tutoring in a school or educational setting
- Experience working with urban school communities and an understanding of the challenges students face
- Strong content knowledge in U.S. History, particularly topics covered on the Regents exam, including constitutional principles, landmark Supreme Court cases, and key historical events
- Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written)
- Punctual, reliable, and committed to student success
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage students effectively
- Ability to commute to the school location in Brooklyn
- DOE fingerprint clearance strongly preferred
