Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to plan, coordinate, and manage the safe and efficient execution of capital and operational projects within the Great Lakes Region. This role encompasses a variety of infrastructure-related projects, including equipment repair and replacement, pipeline modifications, annual inspections, civil and earthworks repairs, and environmental support operations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across cross-functional teams to deliver projects that align with operational priorities, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Engineering:
- Finalize project design and scope in collaboration with technical teams, ensuring all aspects meet corporate engineering and safety standards.
- Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs) and assist in evaluating consultant and contractor qualifications.
- Ensure all necessary engineering documentation is developed and submitted for execution.
- Conduct design reviews with relevant stakeholders and manage scope or design changes effectively.
- Review and approve critical documents including isolation plans, inspection/test plans, and construction work packages.
- Address safety, environmental, and operability risks through sound engineering practices.
Project Execution & Management:
- Support the development of the region's annual capital and operational project plans.
- Define project timelines, resource requirements, and key deliverables.
- Coordinate permit applications and ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies.
- Identify project risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Lead procurement processes, create purchase orders, and coordinate delivery of materials and services.
- Oversee on-site execution in collaboration with contractors and operations personnel.
- Maintain budget control, issue forecasts, and manage any variances.
- Ensure all project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with quality standards.
- Oversee project documentation turnover to asset management and operations teams.
- Manage the project close-out process, including invoice processing and final reporting.
Scope & Impact:
- Lead infrastructure improvement projects that support asset reliability and operational excellence.
- Deliver cost-effective, safe, and environmentally responsible solutions.
- Collaborate with regional leadership to optimize asset performance and extend service life.
- Influence long-term planning and capital allocation by contributing technical insights and project outcomes.
Key Interfaces:
- Regular interactions with Regional Operations Managers, Field Supervisors, and Maintenance teams.
- Frequent collaboration with Engineering, Environmental, Regulatory, Land, and Construction teams.
- Manage relationships with third-party contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants.
- Provide timely project updates to internal stakeholders and ensure alignment with broader operational goals.
Required Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in infrastructure, utility, or energy sector project management. Equivalent combinations of education and practical experience considered.
- Strong knowledge of construction standards, operations, and maintenance procedures.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage competing stakeholder interests.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management tools and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with regular travel to field project sites within the Great Lakes Region.
- Role may require occasional extended hours or weekend work depending on project demands.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $71.00 - $78.00 per hour
