Summary:
The Payroll Assistant serves as an integral part of the Finance team by providing technical and analytical payroll expertise to a busy retail/c-store environment. This position is responsible to support the management and execution of payroll administration procedures to support assigned businesses under the Toot’n Totum family of companies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Enters, maintains and processes information in the payroll system; information includes Team Member hourly rates, salaries, bonuses, other variable compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholdings, addresses changes and various Team Member related payroll information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll including deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions and other deductions.
- Process withholding orders and process payments by check and EFT.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks and direct deposits due to payroll errors and final discharge.
- Ensures federal and state payroll tax deposits have been processed by OSV.
- Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with tax and payroll laws at a federal and state level.
- Supports and facilitates organizational changes, continuous improvement and communication.
- Establishes and fosters relationships with management and all team members that will enable the Payroll function to be viewed as an integral part of the business.

Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required;
- A minimum of two years’ experience OR
- Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk/hear, push/pull, climb, bend/stoop, crouch/kneel/crawl, taste/smell, balance, twist/reach, carry, grasp with hands, squat, drive and use keyboard.
- Lifting Requirements: Lift/pull up to 15 pounds daily.
- Hearing Requirements: Ability to hear alarms, communication equipment, verbal instructions, office machinery such as fax & postage machines.
- Cognitive Requirements: Basic or Complex reading, writing and math skills. Basic or Complex speech skills; must be able to speak, read, write & understand the English language, clerical tasks, memorization, analytical skills, function under stress & make independent decisions.
- Vision Requirements: General vision requirements in addition to close vision (<20 inches), Distance Vision (>20 feet), color vision and peripheral vision.
- Noise Levels: Normal (<85dB) noise levels.
- Repetitive Motion(s): Regularly & repetitively use both feet and both hands.
