Tootsie Roll Industries, LLC, a candy manufacturing facility located in the Midway Airport area is looking for a self-motivated and experienced Fabricator/Mechanic who is able to work in an efficient and safe manner.
Mechanic will be a team member within the Sweets department. The sweets department works on most major new equipment installs at the plant during shutdowns, machines/fabricates parts in a timely manner for production as required, works with design engineers on new product development throughout the plant, and a range of miscellaneous tasks as required.
Mechanic should be open to working on a variety of different tasks each week and should be comfortable working with other mechanics and engineers on a daily basis.

Pay: $38.40 per hour

BCTGM Local Union #1 Position
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints/drawings to fabricate, machine or assemble parts from existing drawings or create new modified parts from old production parts.
- Weld or braze components to fabricate finished parts.
- Sheet metal fabrication utilizing a manual shear and brake.
- Diagnose malfunctions in food processing machines and equipment and determine corrective action by manufacturing required components as necessary.
- Use a manual mill, lathe or saw to fabricate parts made from carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass or plastic.
- Troubleshoot pump/piping issues throughout plant & replace or hang new pipe as required
- General knowledge of machine shop activities including: welding, assembling, disassembling, cleaning, and milling.
- Must possess 5 years of related work experience as a fabricator or possess a 2 year manufacturing certificate from an accredited school.
- Must demonstrate competency in brazing; TIG, MIG and Stick welding of various materials including aluminum and Stainless Steel. (Certified welder is preferred).
- Must be able to use a steel rule, dial caliper, micrometer and other measuring tools to obtain self-needed dimensions.
- Must demonstrate ability to manually machine using a mill and a lathe.
- Must be able to drive forklift / scissor lift
- Must be able to work a flexible first shift work schedule which includes occasional weekends and multiple jobsites.
- All prospective candidates will be administered a practical test to verify skills as a welder and fabricator.
