What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Manager position at Top Dog Training and Resort?

This position requires a high level of responsibility as we are caring for the lives of animals and monitoring and maintaining a safe environment. This is a job which requires being self-sufficient and the ability to multi-task.

The Top Dog Kennel Manager must be able to actively monitor for all health or behavioral issues and address proactively in a timely and effective manner. We will teach them how to read dog behavior. Full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Primary Duties:

Manages kennel staff work schedules ( Makes sure kennel staff comes to work on time, dressed in uniform, finds coverage for shifts, and maintains enough coverage for shifts).

Guide, Direct, and Motivate Kennel Team.

Supervise technical training for kennel staff.

Supervise the staff and ensure they are following the planned schedule.

Help with repairs/maintenance of kennel area and equipment.

Give clients/potentials clients tours—highlight key points that set us apart.

Ensure special instructions ( from owners) are being followed

Provide care and basic needs of animals that are being boarded, trained, or groomed.

Observe animals’ physical conditions in order to detect illness or unhealthy conditions requiring medical care.

Clean and Sanitize kennels, aisles, and reception floors.

Keep records documenting animal health, diet, and/or behavior.

Administer prescribed medications to canines and keep a record of times the medications were administered.

Ensure you know all dogs in play/training groups and can properly identify them. If not, request assistance from other staff or management.

Duties:

Train and supervise kennel staff.

Assign tasks from Daily Cleaning List.

Create cleaning projects as needed.

Routinely check on cleanliness of: pets, runs/cages, kennel area.

Complete general cleaning duties as posted or assigned on checklist.

Greet customers pleasantly and bring the dog on-leash to their kennels while they await day school or supervised play time.

Documenting/Recording Information - Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form of the dogs in the play/training groups.

Record the special needs dog status and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift.

Answer phones as needed in an upbeat voice.

Log in and Organize ALL of the dogs belongings ( bag, food, medication, blankets, toys, special needs, etc).

Conduct tours and be knowledgable of our services when clients want to explore the facility.

Minimum Experience, Skills, Certification or Academic Background Required:

High School graduate or GED preferred.

Prior Experience working as a kennel technician at Top Dog or in the canine community.

Good oral communication skills. Communicate with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates - Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Must be patient and loving with dogs

Work well under fast-paced conditions.

Great attitude, ability to interact positively with staff and clients.

Ability to work in a team environment. Establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships – Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.

Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills (patience to deal with stressful situations).

Excellent time management skills.

Physically fit to stand of feet for 8-12 hour shift.

Must be available to work holidays and weekends.

Ability to arrive to work on time and have reliable transportation.

Be able to work in a fast paced environment.

A thorough knowledge about company strategies, rules and regulations of the company.

Good leadership ability to lead the kennel staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,440.00 - $39,520.00 per year
