As a Municipal Staff Engineer II, you will play a key role in the planning, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects related to resources, and municipal infrastructure. You will work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other professionals to deliver innovative and effective engineering solutions that serve municipalities, agencies, and private clients.
This position offers exposure to the entire project lifecycle—from initial planning and design to permitting, bidding, and construction. You will receive mentorship, structured training, and opportunities for hands-on experience to help you develop and enhance your professional skills.
Key Responsibilities
Project Design & Planning- Assist in the design and development of various civil engineering projects, , municipal utility infrastructure, roadway improvements, site development, and parks/recreational facilities.
- Contribute to green infrastructure initiatives, sustainability projects, and infrastructure rehabilitation programs.
- Prepare detailed engineering plans such as site layouts, utility plans, grading plans, profiles, and cross-sections for roadway, and land development projects.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software to create accurate and efficient engineering drawings.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and other necessary calculations for regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of permit applications and supporting documentation for projects requiring approval from regulatory agencies such as the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and local governing bodies.
- Work on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), and Joint Permitting applications to ensure compliance with environmental and stormwater regulations.
- Assist in the development of engineering proposals and project manuals, including detailed construction specifications and technical reports.
- Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies, and budget projections for proposed projects.
- Conduct land development plan reviews to ensure compliance with municipal and state regulations.
- Participate in the bidding process by assisting with bid document preparation, contractor coordination, and bid evaluation.
- Support construction administration activities, including reviewing contractor submittals, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and conducting field inspections.
- Visit job sites as needed to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Engage with clients, municipalities, and other stakeholders by attending meetings, presentations, and public forums.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients by effectively communicating project updates, challenges, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, planners, and surveyors, to deliver comprehensive engineering solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification.
- 2 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in consulting, municipal, or water resources engineering.
- Hands-on experience preparing drainage, stormwater management, and erosion & sedimentation control calculations and reports.
- Familiarity with subdivision and land development ordinances for municipal plan reviews.
- Strong technical skills, with proficiency in:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D (required)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, and other office locations as necessary.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and legal authorization to work in the United States.
