Description:

 

The Plant Manager in Arkansas is responsible for achieving maximum performance of operation resources, and to develop and implement programs that promote the effective and efficient conversion of raw material to high quality finished wood products, while attaining high safety performance and employee morale. He/She is in daily contact with all mill staff, employee, service departments, sales, and senior leadership. External contacts could include state and federal agencies, community leaders, key contractors, and business partners. The Plant Manager is expected to be a leader of employee safety and engagement. In addition, they are accountable for the facility planning processes in developing a strategic 3–5-year plan. A principal objective is to optimize the return on investment over the long term. To achieve this objective, they are required to implement a long-term budgeting, operating and team building process.  The Plant Manager has the authority to hire, train, develop and terminate hourly employees within guidelines. The position also has the authority to request equipment repair, purchase materials and machinery within guidelines to ensure mill safety and productivity is maintained.

 

Requirements:

·        Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university

·        Minimum 10 years production operations

·        Minimum 7 years in a leadership/supervisory capacity

·        Demonstrated experience in leading and managing change.

·        Demonstrated experience planning, goal setting and project management.

·        Strong technical knowledge of sawmill operations and lumber manufacturing acumen.

·        Knowledge of maintenance processes

 

Responsibilities:

·        Work with other plant leadership to ensure employee issues and concerns are heard and dealt with in a timely manner. 

·        Work with government representatives and regulators regarding compliance to regulation.

·        Work with all staff and employees to recognize and eliminate safety hazards.

·     Support employee development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

·        Recognize gaps in manufacturing, safety, quality, and human capital and develop strategies to close gaps.

·     Participate in the budgeting process, annual production plan, and major equipment expenditures planning process including capital planning and implementation process.

·      Oversee the day-to-day activities of direct reports and ensure they have the tools, resources and training required to do their job to the highest standard.

·        Oversee operational functions to ensure the product meets standards, develops, and implements action plans to correct as necessary through leadership.

·       Manage the operation to budget and provide variance analysis.

·        Hold mill leadership accountable to their operational responsibilities and goals.

·        Facilitate and support the development and implementation of employee engagement activities.

·        Ensures overall margin is maximized vs. individual KPIs.

·        Ensure that leadership development objectives are being met and programs and resources utilized to improve company bench-strength.

·        Ensure that all aspects of the mill’s safety program are delivered to employees in a timely and effective manner.

·        Ensure staff and employees are trained in safe work practices and are compliant with regulations.

·        Ensure processes and procedures exist to aid all contractors in complying with company policy and procedures and they work in a safe and cost-effective manner.

·        Ensure all purchase approval processes are in place and followed. Ensure all staff know and understand their applicable DOA (Delegation of Authority) and how to use it.

·        Ensure all capital projects meet or exceed regulations.

·        Ensure all aspects of the operation comply with applicable regulations.

·        Develop measurable and auditable systems and processes in all levels of the organization to create consistent and sustainable results.

·        Data driven approach to prioritizing team focus and measuring progress.

·        Accountable to develop and deliver the divisional budget.

·        Accountable for the training and development of direct reports.

·        Accountable for overall mill safety performance.
