Job Description: Pathologist Assistant (PA) Pay Scale: $40-$55
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
- Knowledge and ability in the examination and preparation of surgical pathology gross specimens.
- Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Pathologist Assistant PA (ASCP), or eligible for the certificate.
- Prefer at least one year of experience as a Pathology Assistant..
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
- Perform dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens as listed in Specimen Groups A, B, C, and D specimens of specimen training.
- Perform specimen photography and assist with radiography.
- Assist in preparing frozen sections and assist with other intraoperative consultations.
- Identify, investigate and resolve problems related to surgical pathology.
- Ability to assist in training of API, APII and APIII employees in Specimens Groups A-D.
- Willingness to assist with other laboratory functions such as accessioning and cytology prep, if needed.
- Perform duties related to the administrative maintenance of surgical pathology protocols, reports and data protocols, photographic and microscopic slides.
- Assuring proper maintenance of equipment, provision of adequate supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology lab.
- Follows laboratory safety guidelines, including OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
- Participates in TOPA in-service training and in continuing education when applicable,
- Annual TOPA competency assessment participation. Attend staff meetings.
- Coordinates retention of wet tissue storage and its timely tissue dumping and appropriate disposal with the assigned disposal service.
- Has read and understands the content of pertinent procedure manuals.
- Maintains a positive and professional demeanor while on duty; actively and consistently promotes a cooperative work atmosphere; maintains an awareness of the needs of other laboratory employees with respect to workload activities and seeks to assist others whenever appropriate.
