Overview
Topco Associates is currently seeking a Staff Accountant for the Accounting team in Itasca, IL. This position will be a hybrid role, with the successful candidate conducting work in our Itasca office three times per week and virtual twice per week.
Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant monitors and controls monthly close activities, ensuring the completion of tasks by required deadlines. Ensures accurate and complete accounting. Prepares and communicates performance and opportunity analyses to management. Participates in challenging the status quo and driving home accounting process efficiency improvement.
Responsibilities
- Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments
- Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information
- Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts
- Maintains and balances reconciliation of general ledger accounts, ensuring justification of all balances
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION CRITERIA
- Successful performance in these job functions should result in:
- Timely GL Account review & reconciliation
- Accurate journal entries & tax returns
- Accurate and timely report preparation and distribution
- Constant collaboration amongst team
- Timely completion and delivery of special projects as needed
Qualifications
Education:
Four-year college degree in accounting is required
Technical skills:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite. Advanced skills in MS Excel
- Good understanding of internal controls
- SAP experience preferred
Previous experience:
- One to two years of accounting experience preferred.
- CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
Other qualifications:
- Organized self-starter, able to work independently
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on a regular basis
- Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and priorities
- Committed individual to take ownership and bring high personal standards to the workplace
