Mission:
The Foundation’s mission is to enhance educational opportunities for all students through a partnership with our community and its public schools.
Objective:
The Topeka Public Schools Foundation seeks a part-time Executive Director to lead and grow the organization. The role focuses on fundraising, relationship-building, and advancing the Foundation’s support for educational programs, scholarships, and initiatives. The Executive Director will collaborate with the Foundation Board, lead fundraising efforts, communicate the Foundation’s mission, work with district staff, and ensure legal compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Foundation Board to plan fundraising campaigns, grow funding and donor base, ensure timely donation acknowledgments, and update planned giving policies and forms.
- Promote staff grant and scholarship opportunities, encourage applications, assist with submissions and selections, seek new scholarship donors, collaborate with counselors, and support scholarship presentations at Honors Nights.
- Create and support committees to plan and execute events such as the golf tournament, community breakfast, and others as determined by the Foundation Board.
- Present to community organizations to promote the Foundation and build relationships.
- Collaborate with District leadership and staff to support fundraising for Major Savers and other initiatives set by the Foundation Board.
- Promote Foundation activities, fundraising, and maintain alumni relationships through all available avenues.
- Attend all Foundation Board meetings and events, provide monthly progress reports, and supply materials for effective oversight and decision-making.
- Support the treasurer/bookkeeper with financial accounting and reporting and maintain an active Investment Committee.
- Maintain current software licenses for Foundation technology services.
- File annual business registration; submit required reports; respond to phone, mail, email, texts, and social media inquiries; monitor the Foundation's mailbox; and submit grant funding applications.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience: Minimum five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or related field.
- Skills:
- Expertise in donor cultivation, stewardship, and maintaining long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, organization, and management skills with attention to detail, the ability to oversee timelines, manage multiple priorities, and coordinate events.
- Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience engaging and inspiring diverse stakeholders, including Foundation Board members – past and present, donors, and sponsors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Physical/Emotional Requirements:
The job involves light lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, with significant finger dexterity. It requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing in a hazard-free environment. The role is both in-office and remote, with some evening and weekend hours and occasional travel for meetings, events, or conferences.
Terms of Employment:
The compensation package includes a salary of $50,000-$75,000 annually, based on experience, plus a stipend for health insurance and a retirement plan.
