SUMMARY
The mission of all Tops associates is to adhere to the Tops vision of providing a friendly neighborhood store that saves the customer time and money. As a key member of the Retail Management Team, the Operations Manager plays a critical leadership role to ensure a positive shopping experience for Customers and a safe and friendly work environment for Associates. This position is responsible for day to day implementation of assigned business plans & strategies to include: planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of store operations to optimize growth and profitability.
The Customer Service Manager, Grocery Manager, and/or Night Operations Manager may report into this position, as applicable, based on store organizational structure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsibility for making or effectively recommending employment-related decisions through active involvement in hiring, orientation, training/development, counseling, disciplinary actions, and resolution of Associate & Labor Relations matters.
- Maintain the basic store operations:
- Quality: Insure only the finest, freshest product possible
- Housekeeping: Provide a clean and safe environment for customers and associates
- Stock levels and Variety: Insure product is available with a wide selection of products
- Clear Correct Pricing : All products must have one clearly marked price that corresponds correctly with the price displayed at check-out
- Customer Service : Assure total customer satisfaction through courteous, prompt and effective customer service
- Practice basics of profit control (merchandising follow through, cost and shrink control)
- Communicate with department managers frequently
- Insure proper product handling (marking, coding, damage control, product return not for resale, etc.) and proper product receiving/ordering
- Reduce total store shrink and meet or exceed shrink budget in all departments
- Ensure complete and proper execution of the KLT program as outlined for all departments, including reaction to high-shrink items
- Check all logs, weekly for each department (SIR 380, Profit and Loss statement, KLT, and Shrink)
- Actively lead in the inventory counts
- Implement and maintain all applicable sales/merchandising programs, effective ordering, shelf management, product availability and monitoring of direct store deliveries (DSD) in order to insure profitability and growth
- Oversee scan/pricing department operations
- Make certain that price integrity is adhered to by ensuring that all store pricing is accurate and the scan guarantee policy is being followed
- Assesses effectiveness and productivity of departments and store personnel
- Monitors scheduling in relationship to store conditions and makes appropriate adjustments or recommendations
- Consults with department managers about personnel problems and training
- Checks that safety and sanitation procedures are followed and that working conditions are safe and clean
- Completes appropriate injury investigations and completes reporting form when required
- Demonstrates understanding of store priorities, can anticipate change and shows initiative in problem solving
- Act as Manager on Duty as needed, responsible for knowing all opening and closing procedures and enforcing all proper operating procedure throughout the store.
- Perform tasks as assigned by the store manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math functions
- Possess basic computer skills
- Working knowledge of all aspects of store management and operations
- Business Insight/ Problem Solving, Communication Skills, Delegation, Flexibility, Human Relation Skills, Leadership, Management Control, Planning and Organization, Initiative
- Working knowledge of Company SOPs, as well as the ability to make decisions and provide effective leadership
