Job Summary:
As the Practice Director for Toptal’s Business Strategy and Finance Consulting Practice, you will have the opportunity to build and lead one of the most strategic practices as we grow our professional services business. As a client-facing leader, you will have the ultimate responsibility to evaluate the ever-changing needs of our industries and clients to create the optimal set of management consulting services. In addition, you will be working directly with clients to sell, solution, and deliver world-class services. Reporting to the General Manager of Management Consulting, you will be in a high-impact position to set the vision, own the results, develop the Go-to-Market strategy, drive client relationships, and drive the growth of the practices.
Leveraging your Management Consulting expertise in business strategy and finance, you will play a key role in shaping, selling, and delivering high-impact services across strategy and innovation, business transformation, risk management, customer experience, and finance. You will lead strategic initiatives, helping clients navigate complex challenges and drive organizational change. In addition, you will implement risk management frameworks, optimize financial performance, and design innovative solutions that enhance customer experience. Utilizing your extensive leadership and client-facing experience, you will build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, steering them toward sustainable, value-driven outcomes. This role is highly collaborative and will work extremely closely with Toptal’s Marketing, Industry General Managers, Sales Leaders, and Talent Operations teams.

Responsibilities:

- You will be responsible for building and scaling Toptal’s Business Strategy and Finance Consulting Practices. This includes:
- Strategy: Which clients and buyers do we target, and what problems do we help them solve?
- Offering Development: Develop attractive, scalable offerings that resonate with specific industry segments.
- Go-to-Market: Lead from the front to establish a fit with our key clients, and then work with our team to scale adoption and the commercial impact of offerings.
- Thought Leadership: Create thought leadership content and targeted campaigns that showcase our competitive edge, strengthen our market reputation, attract top talent to our network, and drive lead generation for the sales team.
- Sales: Lead client conversations to understand current and future demand and enable, educate, and directly support the industry teams to position Toptal as a business advisor.
- Managing the Business: Lead the business from a sales, revenue, and profitability perspective by understanding the key P&L levers.
- Delivery: Drive the success of consulting projects by owning both sales and delivery end-to-end. Lead and inspire high-performing teams, craft innovative frameworks, and take an active role in delivering impactful results. You’ll seamlessly blend sales and execution to create exceptional client outcomes.
- Talent: Ensure our talent network is prepared to meet the demands of the market as well as foster an ongoing sense of community amongst the network of professionals in this practice area.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, MBA preferred.
- 10 years of experience in business strategy consulting and/or finance consulting, preferably at least 5 years of both selling and delivering consulting services.
- 3 years managing business results including sales, revenue, and profitability.
- Experience in selling and delivering Business Strategy and Finance Consulting engagements with deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: Strategy & Innovation, Business Transformation, Risk, Customer, M&A, and Finance.
- Strong consulting experience including outstanding written and verbal communication and ability to deliver to client needs based on standard consulting tools and methods.
- Skilled at collaborating with industry and client teams to promote, position, and sell consulting services effectively.
- Strong command of P&L management and a deep understanding of financial metrics, with hands-on experience in driving financial performance and ensuring profitability.
- Proven track record of rapid career progression achieved by taking on challenging assignments and exceeding expectations.
- Experience packaging, pricing, and delivering compelling solutions.
- Articulate a strategy grounded in an agile execution plan.
- Comfortable rolling up your sleeves to do the work, and demonstrate traction.
- Make data-informed decisions and define key metrics to measure progress.
- Empathize with your clients to fully understand their challenges, then develop and implement effective solutions, communicating them clearly and persuasively.
- Exceptional relationship-building and leadership skills, with a proven ability to establish credibility at all levels of an organization. You excel at cultivating positive, collaborative partnerships across the business to drive key initiatives and gain alignment on processes and strategies.
- Confidence in your analysis abilities, with proven success in delivering results in ambiguous and sophisticated project efforts.
- Skilled in the art of communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Regular or periodic travel to meet and engage with Toptal clients and customers both inside and outside of your geographic location.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts.

US FLSA Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
This position receives a base salary and is also eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. The US-based salary range for this full-time position is $200,000- $270,000 per year. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
