SUMMARY 

The maintenance supervisor is responsible for the safe and effective execution of all maintenance and assigned projects within the plant.  The supervisor is charged with developing the group of plant maintenance associates into a well-trained, committed and spirited maintenance team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Ensures at the start of the shift and throughout the day that the prompt assignment of mechanics to specific jobs which are appropriate to their possessed skills and/or to their training needs. 

2.    Assures reasonably accurate distribution of time and materials to specific jobs.

3.    Requests overtime approval when essential and makes overtime assignments in accord with established practice.

4.    Instructs crews in the proper equipment usage when appropriate; with emphasis on that good housekeeping and safe work practices.  Suggests ways to improve procedures.  

5.    Controls time lost between jobs, at breaks and shift changes.

6.    Ensures the orderly conduct of the maintenance team members with respect to company policy and work rules.

7.    Endeavors to prevent delays.  Follows up on overruns and interruptions.  Obtains information and makes decisions about unanticipated developments in required time.  Devises solutions when unanticipated obstacles impede work progress.

8.    Remains aware of job cost in man-hours and materials.  Continually searches for ways to improve asset uptime.

9.    Checks jobs for quality and progress at milestone points.

10.    Emphasizes motivation but applies discipline as appropriate.

11.    Assures that the next job is always ready and that each mechanic knows where to go and what to do next.

12.    Makes the tactical decisions necessary to stay as close to schedule as possible.

13.    Reassigns crew and arranges for material and equipment to accommodate unforeseen, unscheduled conditions.  Tactics must often be adjusted as the day and individual jobs progress.

14.    Maintains constant and effective communication with production.

15.    Determines that all the required work is completed.

16.    Assures that the work performed meets quality specification.

17.    Assures that the shop or jobsite is cleaned and left in good order.

18.    Coordinates maintenance efforts between shifts to achieve orderly change over.

19.    Assures that any necessary corrective work orders stemming from inspections or other sources have been initiated.

20.    Inputs accurate and timely data to the computerized maintenance management system.

21.    Provides overall direction regarding the training and development of the organizational associates. Talent management to include plans for long term succession planning and cross function positions.

22.    Provides technical assistance to production on how to best and most economically operate.

23.    Advises production management of equipment requiring excessive maintenance and due for overhaul or replacement.

24.    Continually searches for ways to eliminate maintenance work and to lengthen service live between repairs.  

25.    Seeks ways to improve efficiencies and production performance.

26.    Performs other maintenance or engineering related tasks as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 

1.    A minimum of 2 years of experience within a supervisory role and at least 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment

2.    Experience enforcing and possess understanding of policies supporting safety, quality, customer specification and HR policy. Experience with ISO/TS16949:2009 preferred. 

3.    Excellent problem solving, diagnostic, and organizational skills

4.    Solid communication skills to assist with problem resolutions, and to maintain strong interpersonal relations

5.    Ability to complete various reports and documentation of departmental activities using Windows Office 

6.    Ability to work under high stress and deadline pressures

7.    Ability to contribute as a team member to accomplish the goals and objectives set forth

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position manages 21 hourly maintenance associates and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing some duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level on the job site can be loud. Additionally the job operates in a office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computes, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position does access the manufacturing facility. To navigate the area the individual will need to be able to walk moderate distances, climb a limited amount of stairs, and have the ability to communicate with operators safely.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL

This position requires minimal travel with majority in the local area during normal business operations.

EDUCATION

Associates in electrical and mechanical maintenance or similar degree or equivalent experience
