Torani (R. Torre & Co.)
San Leandro, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 3/19/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/17/2025
We’re looking for an experienced Product Developer/Food Scientist who thrives on the excitement of developing, innovating and optimizing our growing line of Sauces and Syrups and contributing to project teams that are re-shaping the product portfolio.

We are one of the fastest growing and dynamic specialty food companies in the Bay Area, with iconic products and a collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset. Because we wholeheartedly believe in making AMAZING flavor accessible to every consumer and “Flavor for All, Opportunity for All”, our product pipeline is robust, varied and we’re relentlessly exploring what’s next. We are B Corp certified and recognized as one of the most fun, friendly and warm companies you’ll come across.

You are a passionate product developer with a history of successful launches. You are practiced at consumer or customer-led innovation, taking new product ideas and leading beverage and/or food formulation and commercialization across multiple manufacturing processes, ingredient types, and product lines and creating amazing flavor combinations. You thrive in high-energy, collaborative environments and love taking initiative. Moving seamlessly between projects, you're the go-to for natural flavor systems, ingredient functionality, and scaling sauces. Your “can-do” attitude, relationship-building talent, and engaging communication make you a great partner within and beyond Torani. If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk to you about joining our dynamic team!

SUCCESS FACTORS (FIRST 12-18 MONTHS)

  • Product Innovation & Renovation: You have demonstrably assisted in the formulation of at least 2-3 new or optimized, on trend syrups or sauces, and led or co-led the successful commercialization of your products that hit target cost, timing, and quality guardrails. Along the way, you’ve conducted thoughtful sensory and/or consumer testing and applied learnings to deliver amazing, customer-preferred, easy-to-use flavor experiences while ensuring product food safety in adherence with HACCP, GFSI and government standards.
  • Expertise: You have leveraged your technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills to enhance innovation, sensory, and commercialization capabilities, and delivered user-focused products that expanded our portfolio. You've also attended Better Process Control School (if not already completed), assisted with SQF audit success, and effectively communicated experimental results and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Your project management excellence is evident through fulfillment of your product plans and milestones. You’re a go-to product development expert and move between line extension, cost optimization, and flavor improvement initiatives. You are detail oriented and can stick to set timelines while managing multiple projects. You have co-led one sauce plant trial or production, in readiness to lead sauce plant trials in Q1-Q2 2026. You regularly collaborate with stakeholder team members from Marketing, Operations, Co-Manufacturers, Quality, Procurement, Finance, Engineering and Regulatory for successful project accomplishment.
  • Collaboration: Strong relationships are in place across the organization and with external partners, as demonstrated by the successful, smooth launch of new and/or optimized products. Your integrated ways of working with partner functions, including co-manufacturers and leveraging key ingredient supplier value-added services have been crucial to success. You provide valuable expertise and collaboration to the R D team and participate in maintaining the facilities, equipment and safety in the lab.
  • Drive for excellence and product quality: You relentlessly consider the end user of each product you work on and apply learnings from trend presentations, customer needs, and self-initiated research in doing so. You have designed and led application selection, sensory, analytical and shelf-life testing of your new and modified products to preserve Torani leadership in product quality performance and flavor excellence.
