Summary:
The Lumirror Division at TPA produces polyester films. The Civil Engineering Intern will assist the Lumirror Engineering Department in the completion of project work. Project work will entail working both with mechanical engineers and independently on projects.
Duties:
- Work in a support role to other engineers on aspects of their projects.
- Take the lead on the primary project (see below).
- Review work assignments to develop engineered solutions.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office products
- Ability to model existing, new building and the site in AutoCAD
- Must have a strong work ethic and be highly self-motivated
- Strengths in building design and construction will be a plus
- “Hands on” and practical building or mechanical experience/background a plus
- Must be able to communicate clearly, verbally and written, with vendors and contractors
- Ability to report in a clear and concise fashion
- Ideal candidate will be a Civil engineering student entering his or her junior or senior year
Anticipated Projects:
- Review, study and develop a path forward for a building movement condition. Work with in-house engineers and our structural engineer to understand the problem. Work with outside engineering and geotechnical resources to understand the conditions and develop a path forward. This will be the primary focus of the internship.
- Update the facility site plan in AutoCAD
- Floor loading review – Prepare as built drawings of flooring structures, coordinate with external PE to allow accurate floor loading to be marked.
- Model an existing building in support of planned upcoming process modification project. CAD system for this will be reviewed with the candidate based upon their knowledge and ability to learn (Revit is preferred).
Length of Employment:
- The internship is a full-time forty hour per week position
- The assignment will begin on May 27th and end on August 22nd
Compensation:
- This is a paid internship; the compensation is $20.00/hour
