The Role: Unlock Your Potential  

As a Software Engineer at Torch.AI, you will be at the forefront of building software that scale within and across Torch.AI’s platform capabilities. Your software will be deployed across an array of operational and research & development efforts directly for U.S. defense and national security programs and projects.  

Each of our customers requires unique technical solutions to remove obstacles such as manual-intensive data analysis and cognitive burden to ensure mission success. Our modular end-to-end data infrastructure platform supports a wide variety of military functions and operations. We configure enterprise-grade solutions to meet the specialized needs of our customers and encourage company-wide collaboration to share context, skills, and expertise across a variety of tools, technologies, and development practices. Our platform enables customer-specific solution teams to rapidly design, configure, and deploy data architectures tailored to meet specific operational and analytical requirements. 

You’ll work autonomously while driving coordinated, collaborative decisions across cross-functional solutions and product development teams, which include a mix of defense and national security experts, U.S. veterans, and experienced AI/ML, software, and data engineers. Your code will be used to form the backbone of critical capabilities used by defense and intelligence agencies, making a tangible difference in safeguarding our nation’s interests. You will have the opportunity to harden and scale existing platform capabilities, tools, and technologies, while also working to innovate and introduce new iterative capabilities, features, and projects which benefit our company, IP, and customers.

Critical Skills 

• B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field.  
• 6 years of experience in software development / operations / data experience. 
• Knowledge of RESTful services, as well as JSON parsing and querying. 
• Proven experience with Big Data technologies, including processing and analyzing large-scale datasets. 
• Proficient in NiFi for data integration, flow management, and system interoperability. 
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technology and engineering challenges and develop software solutions. 
• Proficient in writing clean, concise, and efficient software using the Java programming language. 
• Proven ability to manage the full product lifecycle, from development to production, including deployment management. 
• In-depth knowledge of Java’s general-purpose libraries and frameworks. 
• Expertise in Java SE Platform capabilities, techniques, and features up to version 21. 
• Experience building high-performance Java applications optimized for cloud and container-based environments. 
• Proficiency with productivity tools such as Git for version control and collaboration. 
• Solid understanding of foundational cloud computing architectures and key AWS components. 

What We Value 

• Deep industry experience, preferably within the defense industry and/or intelligence community or related sectors (not strictly required but encouraged). 
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders.  
• Capability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.  
• Awareness of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices.  
• Experience with ETLs and APIs. 
• Understanding of security products focusing on IAM. 
• Basic familiarity with cloud storage and compute services, such as AWS S3, EC2, RDS, and VueJS will be beneficial. 
• Full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 
• Currently holds TS/ SCI w/ CI Poly is required. 
• Work locations may vary throughout the Greater DMV area based on client needs.
