Job Description

Torch Technologies, a 100% employee-owned company, has a new and exciting opportunity to add a System Engineer to our team in Huntsville, AL. The individual will be a part of a team that works with Army Aviation and Missile Center (AvMC) and directly with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Government customers. The candidate will operate primarily out of a government facility supporting the MDA Engineering Enterprise program. The Systems Engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), functional team technical lead, Agile practitioner, liaison to leadership for MBSE, adoption advocate and support for MBSE products and services to internal and external customers, driver of MBSE products and services maturity for optimal value delivery to customers.  

 

Responsibilities: 

• Serve as the SME and technical lead for a functional team of systems engineers practicing MBSE in a capability focused organization within an acquisition environment (enabler to a multilayered missile defense weapons system).
• Act as the product liaison between the government customer and the Systems Engineering team, leading the development and implementation of the MBSE roadmap while enhancing the maturity of services and products.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define desired outcomes and validation criteria for requirements and architecture, breaking them down across conceptual, functional, logical, and physical system levels.
• Champion MBSE products, services, and value.
• Operate within a team using SAFe for project management.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) or related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing model-based systems engineering.
• Willingness and ability to lead a team of systems engineers in determining discrete tasks and next steps for team members.
• Experience and willingness to work on multidisciplinary cross functional teams.
• Ability to self-direct work while knowing the boundaries for customer approval or input.
• Proficiency in conducting evaluations using standardized criteria (such as trade studies) to generate multiple courses of action and provide recommendations to the customer.
• Experience executing a MBSE roadmap and maturing systems engineering products/services. 
• Capability to assist in prioritizing team tasks based on customers' high-level requests and value optimization.
• Ability to initiate and sustain communications with customers for requirements, architecture, and capability roadmap development.
• Experience in analyzing, breaking down, and validating requirements and architecture across conceptual, functional, logical, and physical levels.
• Proficiency in SysML, UML, and modeling methodologies.
• Proficiency with digital tooling for requirements and systems modeling.  
• Ability to ensure models are compliant to industry standards (INCOSE, DoDAF, etc.)
• Willingness and ability to participate in MBSE development activities.
• Ability to explain the value and concepts of MBSE to team members, customers, and stakeholders lacking MBSE knowledge.
• Willingness and ability to engage stakeholders and working groups for discovery of opportunities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical and non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership
• Work within a Scaled Agile Framework Enterprise (SAFe) team and Agile Release Train, collaborating closely with the Scrum Master.
• Active SECRET Clearance or higher, or ability to obtain a clearance within 30 days.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in SE or MBSE and 10 years of experience practicing MBSE.
• INCOSE CSEP, OMG Model Fundamental, or other SE certifications.
• Proven success in a self-directed work environment.
• Team Lead experience, especially of SE or MBSE teams.
• Experience with Product Management or Product Ownership, especially of MBSE products/services and/or roadmap.
• Proficiency with DOORS Classic and/or DOORS NextGen.
• Proficiency with IBM’s Rhapsody and/or Dassault Systèmes’ Cameo.
• Experience with model automation and metrics.
• Familiarity with a cloud-based infrastructure.
• Experience with Jira or GitLab for project management (kanban/work management applications).
• SAFe or Agile certifications, relevant experience, or Lean Six Sigma belt qualifications.
• Familiarity with digital engineering/digital transformation principles.
• Department of Defense experience.
