What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper I (Contract for Part Time and Full Time) position at Toronto Blue Jays?
As a member of the Toronto Blue Jays Florida Operations, the Groundskeeper I role reports to the Manager of Grounds. This position supports the overall upkeep and maintenance practices needed for all playing surface and outdoor spaces at the Player Development Center and TD Ballpark. These spaces include natural and synthetic turf playing fields, batting cages, exterior bathrooms, outdoor baseball spaces, landscape beds, and all common areas and ponds around Player Development Center and TD Ballpark.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Assist in preparation, maintenance and restoration of grounds as directed, including all activities or tasks fundamental to baseball field care or general landscapes maintenance.
- Set-up and break down equipment for batting practice and games.
- Drag and upkeep infields.
- Repair and pack pitching mounds and home plate clay.
- Operate power equipment such as push mowers, weed whips, stick edgers, backpack blowers in a responsible manner.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, hedge trimmers.
- Ensure use of proper equipment and adhere to safety standards and precautions.
- Clean equipment used at end of day and return to proper storage position.
- Gather and remove litter.
- Provide support in other stadium and complex activities and special events.
- Assist in field preparation for all baseball related activities to meet requests provided by the Blue Jays and visiting teams coaching staff
- Minor Facility work such as pressure washing, painting, and light maintenance.
- Keep all common areas and landscaping areas in top condition.
- All other duties as assigned by Grounds leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Requires lifting of heavy equipment and materials (over 50lbs) and manual labor (raking, shoveling, tarp pulls)
- Willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Must have strong communication skills, able to verbally communicate at a level that ensures productivity and quality of work.
- Ability to be productive in a fast-paced work environment with rapidly changing schedules and environmental conditions.
- Strong ability to work well with co-workers, coaches, players in a team environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
