What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Agent Full Time Days position at Torrance Memorial Medical Center?
Under the general supervision of the Director of Supply Chain Operations, responsible for the functions of purchase order preparation, supply and equipment procurement, contract management, product analysis, and cost analysis.
Core Competencies
Reviews purchase requests assuring proper authorization has occurred and data is accurate.
Assists departments in identifying and locating products.
Searches for alternate vendors in order to maximize cost savings.
Ensures that all purchases utilizes contract pricing when available and beneficial.
Uses prudent buyer practices when selecting vendors.
Negotiates pricing, delivery terms, and other related cost factors with vendors, assuring that all purchases are made at the lowest total cost possible.
Ensures that orders are placed in the most cost effective and efficient manner.
Prepares purchase orders and places orders with vendors utilizing the computerized MMIS, electronic order entry, fax server, or telephone.
Establishes and maintains files related to the purchasing of supplies and equipment.
Negotiates supply and equipment purchase contracts with vendors in order to maximize cost savings and avoid future price increases.
Coordinates with Warehouse personnel the timely and efficient distribution of supplies and equipment to the user departments.
Communicates expected delivery dates, backorder delays, or other information to user departments.
Coordinates proper and timely payment to vendors with the Accounting department.
Performs maintenance functions, generates reports, and other duties related to the computerized MMIS.
