Job Description / Essential Elements :
COUNSELOR
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
1. Has direct responsibility to the school principal or designee for performance of delegated functions.
2. Works through building administrator with appropriate District Office administrator to implement professional activities and inservice training.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Educational Counseling
a. Program planning and adjustment
b. Confer with students regarding credit and graduation requirements
c. Assist students in making the transition from one school level to another and from one program to another.
d. Counsel students and / or parents regarding special programs
e. Monitor students' progress
2. Career Counseling
a. Assist students to become more aware of their aptitudes, abilities, and interests
b. Counsel with individuals and groups on jobs and career objectives
c. Assist students to correlate programs with career objectives
d. Provide information concerning occupations, careers, and training possibilities
3. Personal Counseling
a. Assist students in resolving individual problems
b. Assist students in developing personal decision-making competencies
c. Provide information about community resources to students with special
problems
4. Evaluate and Interpret Test Data
5. Counsel and Consult with Parents and Staff Members
a. Assist parents in coping with student-related crises and developmental problems
b. Assist parents in achieving a realistic perception of their child's development
c. Consult with members of the administrative and teaching staffs by sharing appropriate individual student data
d. Assist in the identification of students with special needs and problems
e. Assist with the educational, personal, and social problems of students
f. Facilitate articulation between schools and grade levels
g. Participate in curriculum development with reference to the emerging needs of students
h. Assist in the upgrading of guidance and special programs

6. Maintains Professional Competency
a. Seek ways to evaluate and to upgrade guidance program
b. Read current literature and laws related to guidance and special programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Academic
a. Recent training and / or experience in pupil personnel work
b. Valid California credential in Pupil Personnel Services
c. Master's degree
3. Related Experience
a. Demonstrated leadership capacity in school, community, and / or youth organizations
b. Has been active in professional organizations
c. Has ability to relate to students, teachers, and parents
d. Has had successful elementary and / or secondary teaching experience
Requirements / Qualifications
Must have a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential specializing in School Counseling. CBEST (or other qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing) is required

We give up to seven (7) years of experience if the former position is 75% of the school year, you were under contract, the school is WASC accredited, and you are credentialed during your time of employment with that institution.
