Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for managing the company’s accounting functions, with adherence to standard accounting principles (GAAP), in the preparation of financial reports, compilation of financial statements, analysis of financial data, and ensuring financial compliance. The Controller will maintain and oversee a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, expense reporting compliance and bank reconciliations. This position involves maintaining controls and records of financial transactions and managing the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team members. The Controller reports directly to the CFO and will be responsible for supporting the accounting and finance team in carrying out all other responsibilities of the department.

Primary Responsibilities: Major include the following activities:

  • Accounting Department Personnel Management
    • Oversee and manage the Accounting team in the performance of their duties with daily accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
    • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and guidance to team members
    • Ensure adherence to company policies and practices
    • Follow company practices in the employee life cycle process (recruiting, performance management, termination), as needed
  • Accounting Department Oversight and Responsibilities:
    • Review and approve all monthly reconciliations, manual journal entries and financial statements for board review
    • Oversee and assist with the timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial close
    • Manage the annual budget process and subsequent preparation of financial reports and statements
    • Manage the annual audit, quarterly reviews and 401(k) audit to ensure they are completed timely with minimal issues
    • Prepare and deliver internal and external reports, with accompanying analysis, for company as well as federal/ state agencies
    • Provide schedules and information to external auditors to assist in the quarterly reviews and yearly audits
    • Coordinate the preparation of annual tax returns and tax compliance
    • Participate in weekly leadership meetings with C-level executives and present monthly and quarterly financial reports to drive strategic decisions
    • Establish and maintain corporate accounting policies and procedures
    • Assist in the renewals of general liability and D&O insurance
    • Ensure compliance and filing of state tax returns
    • Assist with inventory control and cost analysis policies and procedures
    • Analyze, improve, and implement new policies and procedures to keep up with technology enhancements, and create more efficient operations.
    • Ensure that all appropriate personnel are adequately trained and understand how to utilize the proper accounting system
    • Manage treasury relationships and system access, while monitoring and managing operating cash flow and funding requirements. Maintain cash flow forecast
    • Participate in special projects and analysis as needed and directed by management/owner/supervisors
    • Other duties, as assigned
Requirements:

  • Strong time management, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well both independently, and in team setting
  • Education, experience, certifications
  • 7 years’ experience in mid-senior level finance or accounting role (manufacturing background preferred)
  • MBA or an advanced degree in business, management, or finance preferred
  • CPA is not required but preferred.

Physical and mental demands

o Prolonged periods of desk work.

o Prolonged hands-on work fully garbed in cleanroom suit.

o Ability to access all facilities on site as needed.

o Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.

o This position is on site, no remote work option.
