Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Landscape Designer with a strong background in plant material knowledge and design software proficiency to work in our Sarasota office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience designing with plant materials suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 10a-11, as well as expertise in landscape design and sales. You will be expected to prove your proficiency in design software, including DynaScape and Structure Studios, and to apply your skills in creating custom, thoughtful designs for residential and commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design landscape plans for residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties with a focus on aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.
- Utilize design software to create high-quality landscape designs, 3D models, and rendered visuals.
- Develop detailed planting plans that incorporate plant species appropriate for USDA Hardiness Zones 10a-11, focusing on both beauty and low-maintenance solutions.
- Work directly with clients to understand their vision and needs, providing expert design consultation and sales support.
- Create and present design proposals to clients, including visual presentations, cost estimates, and project timelines.
- Ensure designs meet local zoning, environmental, and permitting requirements, and collaborate with contractors during installation.
- Assist in project management duties, including coordinating materials, managing budgets, and maintaining project schedules.
- Stay current on industry trends, sustainable design practices, and new plant varieties that thrive in the region’s climate.
Requirements:
Proficiency in at least one or more landscape design software programs, such as:
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- Revit
- Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Lumion
- DynaScape
- Structure Studios
- Land F/X
- Vectorworks
- Rhino
- 3D Studio Max
Skillset / Experience:
- Strong command of landscape design principles, local plant material knowledge, and construction techniques.
- Attention to detail and a passion for high-quality design.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and environmental responsibility.
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing with plant materials suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 10a-11.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a design/sales role, including client interaction, design presentation, and project management.
- Proven proficiency in DynaScape and Structure Studios (must be able to demonstrate proficiency).
- Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, or a related field (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Florida native plants, drought-tolerant species, and climate appropriate landscaping.
- Ability to create both conceptual designs and detailed technical drawings.
- Experience with CAD software and/or 3D modeling programs
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex design ideas to clients clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Positive, collaborative attitude and the ability to work independently when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in landscape architecture (preferred but not required). * Familiarity with local building codes, zoning laws, and permitting processes in Sarasota and surrounding areas. * LEED accreditation or similar sustainability certifications (desirable).
