Position Overview

Position Overview

The Assistant Sow Farm Manager reports to the Farm Manager. This position will oversee and manage Crutchfield which includes breeding, farrowing, and weaning of pigs. The assistant manager will be responsible to lead and mentor a cohesive team to meet or exceed budgeted volumes of wean pigs.

In this role you should expect to:

  • Responsible for the overall safety, quality, performance, and compliance which includes:
    • Performance management
    • Reward and discipline employees
    • Resolve problems
    • Address staffing needs
    • Promote safety
    • Training
  • Oversee daily care of breeding sows and piglets
  • Provide proper environment for the animals
  • Provide proper nutrition for the animals
  • Oversee proper animal health and bio-security protocols
  • Meets or exceeds production targets and other KPI for farm
  • Oversee general maintenance of farm facilities
  • Oversee recordkeeping of farm
  • Build strong relationships with senior leadership through effective communication and collaboration to support company goals
  • Develop best practices and use strong communication skills to build a strong, cohesive team
  • Champion a safety culture
  • Act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance and consistency for daily business requirements
  • Follow and adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned


What you'll need to succeed in this role:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science strongly preferred but not required. In lieu of degree, 6 years of experience in swine management
  • 3 years sow management experience
  • Strong decision-making & problem-solving skills with independent decision-making ability
  • Demonstrated analytical aptitude
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning capabilities
  • Ability to drive change as well as lead, mentor, and train others
  • Ability to connect with people throughout all levels of the organization
  • Team-oriented
  • Strong communication skills – bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Self-motivated
  • High-level organizational skills with attention to detail, allowing you to handle high volumes of work and multiple priorities

Physical requirements of this role:

  • Ability to stand/kneel/bend/stoop/walk for extended periods of time (8-10 hours a day)
  • Repetitive use of both arms, hands, feet
  • Able to withstand working in the elements
  • Operate company vehicle and maintain clean driving record
  • Able to perform clerical work in an office type setting
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs. frequently
