- On-Call Shift: 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM

Introduction:
TOSH Ambulatory Surgical Center is seeking a dedicated nurse for a Monday-Friday evening schedule. This position offers guaranteed hours and pay during the scheduled shift, with additional on-call responsibilities from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. On-call compensation is at 10%, with time and a half if called in. Most patients are discharged during the day, with occasional overnight recovery care. You will also assist with post-op follow-up calls and prepare beds for the next day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care during scheduled shift (6:30 PM – 10:30 PM), focusing on post-operative recovery for patients.
- Be on-call from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Assist with making post-op phone calls to ensure patients are recovering well.
- Help prepare gurneys and other necessary supplies for the next day’s surgeries.
- Occasionally assist with recovery care for patients requiring extended recovery time before discharge (with another nurse).
- Ensure smooth transition between the day shift and the night shift.
Compensation:
- Guaranteed hours and pay during the scheduled shift (6:30 PM – 10:30 PM).
- On-call pay at 10% of hourly rate from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Time and a half pay if called in to work during the on-call shift.
Requirements:
- Current nursing license (RN or LPN).
- Prior experience in post-operative care or ambulatory surgery centers is preferred.
- Strong communication skills to interact with patients and the healthcare team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks during both scheduled and on-call hours.
- Flexibility to assist with various patient needs during on-call hours.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Assesses, develops and implements total nursing care for post-operative patients
- Records and reports to appropriate persons all symptoms, reactions abnormalities and changes in the physical and/or mental conditions of the post-operative patients
- Administers medications and treatments ordered by the physicians
- Cares and discharges post-operative patients according to facility policies
- Able to accurately assess need for pain and /or nausea medication
- An order always precedes the administration of medication
- Intended actions and side effects are known
- Medications are documented
- Maintains patient and employee privacy and confidential information
- Provides psychological support to patients and/or families
- Maintains rapport with physicians and other departments providing care for the patients, (i.e.: home x-ray, outside radiology)
- Admits patients to sit-up area
- Performs routine charging of medications and supplies
- Accurately checks charge sheets for supplies used on patients
- Functions independently in emergency situations
- Able to make logical quick decisions based on sound judgment
- Maintains competence through continuing education
- Meets requirements for CEU re-licensure
- Assists in orientation of new employees with factual information regarding current departmental policies
- Acts as a resource for new employees
- Maintains supplies and cleanliness in the work environment
