Context & Environment
The Senior Control Systems Specialist performs all the activities required to develop, enhance, support, and ensure the availability and reliability of the Port Arthur Refinery. This responsibility is met by installation, implementation, and maintenance of process control and office administration systems, as well as continuous support of a large user base and the quick and efficient resolution of problems and malfunctions.
Interdepartmental relations is of the utmost importance since one is required to interface with all levels of Employees while providing support for this environment. One also interacts with vendors' technical support staffs to identify and implement solutions to hardware and software problems, thereby acting as a liaison between refinery personnel and vendors' support staffs.
This position works with little supervision and must set priorities based on volume, business needs and economic justification. The workload is continuous and is subject to interruptions. Decisions often must be made in emergency situations based solely on trouble symptoms and personal technical knowledge. This position is also required to study and recognize potential new uses of process and information technology to enhance the profitability and safety of the refinery.
Activities
Activities :
- Monitor quality performance of operations and safety in work area.
- Provide technical, engineering, and maintenance support for Honeywell Distributed Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controller Systems, and the Tank Farm Automation System.
- Provide technical support for the Instrument, Electrical, and Analyzer Groups.
- Provide primary support to Project and Process Engineering by inspection of all field instrumentation and Factory acceptance testing / certification of all new process control computer systems.
- Subject to callout for any and all of the Refinery's control systems needs.
- Conduct training, as needed, on all the above for various Operations, Electrical, and Instrument Groups.
Candidate Profile
Requirements : Associate Degree with 8 years related experience required; BS in Electrical Engineering with 3 years related experience preferred.
