POSITION : Billing Representative, General
SUPERVISOR : Billing Manager
SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Responsible for resolving billing discrepancies to include utilizing payer websites to file reconsiderations and appeals, as necessary. Ensure timely filing and proper processing of claims to maximize reimbursement. Work with patients via phone to answer questions, set up payment plans and process patient payments.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS :
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Stooping, bending, and stretching for supplies
- Lifting supplies weighing up to thirty pounds such as paper reams
- Constant use of the computer
- Substantial typing
- Use of a calculator to perform basic math
- Use of telephones, copiers, scanners, and other typical office equipment
- Vision correctable to 20 / 20 and hearing in the normal range for telephone use
- Management of moderate stress levels, periodic interruptions, and multi-tasking
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed in the call center area. Communication with patients, primarily by phone but occasionally in person, is required.
Communication with payers via payer websites and phone to resolve claims issues is required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Follow-up on all returned claims, correspondence, denials, account reconciliations and rebills in a timely manner to achieve maximum reimbursement.
Monitor payers for specific trends, claims processing and / or payment issues and communicate with peers and manager regarding issues..
Generates revenue by making payment arrangements, collecting accounts, and monitoring and pursuing delinquent accounts.
Recommend accounts for outside collection when internal collection efforts fail in accordance with practice protocol
Process refunds to insurance companies and patients in accordance with practice protocol
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Enhances billing department and practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of business and medical office procedures
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Knowledge of basic math skills
Knowledge of accounts receivables including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 codes and Rev Codes
Ability to type at least 40 WPM
Ability to operate a computer, printer, copier, and other basic office equipment
Ability to answer telephones in a pleasant and helpful manner
Ability to speak clearly and concisely
Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with patients, coworkers, physicians, and the public
Ability to protect and preserve confidential information
Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Experience
At least one year of experience working in a medical office preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology desirable
Computer competency
