What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metrology Technician position at Total Plastic Solutions LLC?
The Metrology Technician works collaboratively with the Quality Engineers and Project Engineers to meet deadlines for customer part approval, including all items requested on the trial card. First Article Inspections, Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility Process, Process Capability Studies, Design of Experiments, Steel Measurements, Design of Fixtures and Programming the Measurement Equipment can all be a part of mold and part approval. The Metrology Technician works closely with production to have programs set up for the Quality Technicians and Quality Leaders to be able to determine acceptance of parts at start-up, in-process and final inspections. This includes training Quality Technicians/Quality Leaders on fixturing and programs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. First Article Inspections (FAI)
2. Inspection Equipment Programming
3. Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility Studies
4. Fixture Development
5. Measurements of parts from Design of Experiments (DOE)
6. Process Capability Studies
7. Support to Production, Toolroom, Engineering and Customer when required
8. Train/Mentor new department members
9. Incoming Inspection
10. Certificates of Compliance with supporting data when required to ship product to the customer
11. Managing the calibration system, including the outsourcing of any instruments and maintaining documents associated in IQMS
12. Ability to learn the DataColor equipment for reading color samples and product
13. Team support with all members of the quality department
14. Perform necessary tasks assigned by the Quality Manager in a timely and accurate manner
15. Perform MFI testing on incoming resin lots and on parts at post molding when required
16. Knowledge of how to perform incoming inspection
17. Demonstrate competency of applicable requirements from applicable ISO standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001).
Requirements and Qualifications
GD&T: 1 year required
Coordinate measuring machine: 2 years required
Education... High School Diploma or GED
Certification(s) or Licenses… NA
Essential Knowledge… Programming Visual and Touch Probe measuring equipment. Read and understand blueprints. Knowledge of GD&T. Good attitude when teaching and working with others to help them understand measurement techniques. Professional communication with all groups.
Work Experience… Expertise in equipment use for calipers, micrometers and other measurement equipment. Computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements… Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, lifting and carrying objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
