About the position:
TJFACT is seeking a well-versed Epidemiologist to join our team to support our CDC - Associate Director and Islands Coordinator’s objectives in NCCDPHP, Office of the Director, Office of Public Health Practice (OPHP) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance in the planning and implementation of various data collection/retrieval activities identified by Islands recipients, including, but not limited to Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Hybrid surveys, High School surveys, Global Youth Tobacco Surveys, and electronic health records.
- Provide technical assistance and support to Islands recipients to annually update national NCD Monitoring and Surveillance (M&S) Plans and associated national/state NCD indicators in collaboration.
- Collaborate and liaise with the Pacific Islands Health Officers Association (PIHOA) to provide continuous technical support and subject matter expertise to PIHOA’s Regional Epidemiology Office, local NCD staff, and regional partners.
- Provide epidemiologic support to Islands recipients, PIHOA, and other regional partners during natural disasters, pandemics, and other outbreak responses to ensure that chronic diseases are adequately addressed.
- Build the epidemiology and surveillance capacity of Islands recipients by facilitating Data for Decision Making (DDM) courses, identifying training needs and opportunities for recipients, and providing direct assistance to recipients through site visits, virtual meetings, e-mail, and phone calls.
- Provide support and technical assistance for Walkability assessments, Walkability Institutes, action plans, and evaluation of action plans for Islands recipients.
- Build capacity to strengthen Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in the Islands to further understand causes of death related to chronic disease and associated risk factors through workshops, trainings, and seminars.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- PhD, preferably in epidemiology.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands, US Virgin Islands, and/or Puerto Rico
- Expertise in data analysis of chronic diseases and associated risk factors.
- The ability to work well with others and manage multiple tasks, with good organizational skills.
