About the Position:
TJFACT is looking to identify a well-qualified Financial Counselor to support Joint Base Charleston by providing family life skills education programs for military personnel and families, Department of Defense (DOD) civilians, retirees and family members, and reserve components located at Joint Base Charleston.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Education and Consultation Support
- Coordinate, publicize and provide a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops, e.g., car buying, basic budgeting, managing credit, debt liquidation, consumer awareness, insurance, savings and investments, and retirement planning. Services, including workshops, briefs, classes, etc., will be provided on-site (FFSC) and to military and community organizations within the Tri-county area, along with local area tenant commands.
- Programs may be offered as single or multi-session classes/workshops or on an individual basis.
- Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars for youth and teens as part of on/off- base education services.
- Conduct initial and refresher Command Financial Specialist (CFS) training. Assist Command Financial Specialists in developing General Military Training (GMT) on topics relating to Personal Financial Management.
- Develop an extensive variety of class materials to include briefings, brochures, flyers, etc. for customers to enhance the learning experience and will keep material updated.
- Provide individualized financial counseling and assistance to service members and families.
- Assist service members and their family members in establishing an extended absence/ deployment financial plan.
- Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
- Plan, organize and develop new curriculum to be delivered by staff providing basic Personal Financial Management Education and Training per client request, when not otherwise available in standardized PFM curricula. Workshops/classes shall be offered at times and locations, to include after normal working hours, to best meet the needs of customers.
- Provide consumer information and assistance in handling consumer complaints.
Required Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s which equips the incumbent to serve as a personal financial management counselor and maintain national certification as an Accredited Financial Counselor as outlined in DoD Instruction 1342.22, Section 3. d.(6)(a) & (b).
- Current Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) Certification. If not current, must obtain the certification within 1 year of hire.
- Must also become an Accredited Financial Counselor within 1 year of hire, if not currently.
- Financial Advising: 1 year
- FRG (Family Readiness Group): 1 year
