What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Assistant - Community Housing Services position at Touchstone Mental Health?
Salary: $18.25 an hour base rate
Overnight Shift Differential: $1.00 an hour
Weekend Shift Differential: $0.50 an hour
Open Position: Minnehaha Commons (Longfellow neighborhood)
Shifts available: Every other weekend, 4 pm-10 pm
(Residents at Minnehaha Commons are 55 years or older.)
Mental Health Assistants (MHA) Responsibilities:
- Establish supportive and motivational relationships with residents; coach residents to utilize coping strategies and complete activities of daily living; assist in the completion of independent living skills; and provide rehabilitative skills training.
- Observe residents for changes in health symptoms; redirect maladaptive behaviors; perform behavioral management interventions; and de-escalate mental health crises.
- Perform delegated nursing services, including the administration of medications, as unlicensed personnel under the direction of the nursing staff.
- Promote participation in community activities; and provide support and prompts that encourage socialization.
- Support the cleanliness of common areas and bedrooms and complete housekeeping duties.
- Ensure residents and their guests are following site guidelines to ensure the facility is safe and secure.
- Collaborate with other staff members, consultants, interns and/or volunteers.
Mental Health Assistants Requirements:
- Experience supporting adults with mental illness strongly preferred
- Experience supporting adults with substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders preferred
- Experience supporting adults who have experienced long-term homelessness preferred
- Classes in psychology, counseling, or social work helpful
- Ability to work at multiple locations in Minneapolis helpful
