Overview
The Associate Chairperson operates under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Preclinical Dean. She/He is an immediate supervisor and an academic and administrative leader of the Faculty of the Department of Anatomy (the Department). The Associate Chairperson derives responsibility and authority as delegated by the Campus Dean and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Department and the long-term development of the Department.
Responsibilities
Basic responsibilities of this position include:
- Report to the Assistant Preclinical Dean the academic progress of the department.
- Evaluate the needs of the department and report those to the Assistant Preclinical Dean.
- Assure that programs within the department are commensurate with the overall goals of the Institution.
- Collaborate with the Harlem and Middletown Departmental Chair and Associate Chair on matters of faculty, faculty development and curriculum, but especially those issues which impact all TouroCOM campuses.
- Work with departmental faculty to improve planning, delivery and assessment of course curricula across the departmental course offerings.
- Work with individual faculty members to assure their professional development within their assigned course, research and college activities.
- Serve as a role model.
- Other duties are to be assigned as necessary by the Assistant Preclinical Dean.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience
- Candidates must have a PhD or relevant degree and 3-5 years experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following areas: leadership, personnel management and team building, financial management, relevant content expertise, research techniques, instructional design/delivery/assessment, course management, public speaking, effective written and oral communication, and conflict management.
- Basic computer skills supporting the proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Powerpoint, Word, Outlook and Excel, as well as software used to prepare and administer written exams electronically are preferred.
