Job Description
Reporting directly to the corporate CFO, the controller will be responsible for the financial, payroll, budgeting, forecasting reporting process for the Rhode Island division. The ideal candidate will have experience in the wholesale produce distribution industry, preferable in a senior financial role, who’s managed the entire closing process as well as financial statement creation. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, this individual will be a key partner supporting senior managers around strategic objectives, sales & operational reporting while continuing to support the growth of the company.
Objectives of this Role
- Maintain the monthly and annual financial reporting process as well as act as the liaison with the outside auditors
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Assist with future acquisition integration activities
Responsibilities
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecast and report variances
- Manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, GL, inventory accounting, revenue recognition and cash forecasting
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets and reporting standards on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales and operational analysis and reporting including adhoc reporting
- Assist with the treasury management
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Oversee and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Manage and comply with local and state reporting requirements and tax filings
- Additional controller duties as necessary
Required skills and qualifications
- Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
- 10 years of combined accounting and finance experience
- Advanced degree in Accounting
- CPA preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process
