POSITION TITLE: Chief Wastewater Treatment Operator
POSITION SUMMARY: Chief Operator is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of the Towanda Wastewater Treatment Facilities within the guidelines of appropriate state and federal regulations; conducting tests and reporting results; organizing and scheduling maintenance and repairs to plant and related equipment; as well as the collection system pump stations; and proper treatment and disposal of biosolids..
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Chief Operator works under the supervision and direction of the Water and Sewer Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Chief Operator shall supervise and be responsible for the plant operators and any casual labor assigned to him.
TYPICAL DUTIES: The following description covers the most significant duties the Chief Operator will be responsible for or perform but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned:
1. Conduct and perform tests required by appropriate state and federal regulations in accordance with established schedules.
2. Prepare and submit reports to appropriate agencies.
3. Daily inspection of all plant equipment, including preventive maintenance.
4. Cleaning treatment plant and related equipment in accordance with plant schedule.
6. Maintenance and repairs to plant and related equipment as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Chief Operator shall meet the following minimum qualifications.
1. Graduate of High School or general education diploma (GED).
2. Five years experience in activated sludge treatment operations.
3. Posses a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
4. Possess a Class B Subclass 1 Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License.
5. Experience in wastewater treatment field or related operations with emphasis on troubleshooting and maintaining pumps, chlorination and chemical dosing equipment, electrical motors and related electronic systems.
