Summary
The Construction Inspector will be responsible for supporting the project management team of construction activities for aerial, buried & underground fiber optic cable facilities. Must communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, drafters, and administrative personnel to ensure that projects are successfully completed on time.
Responsibilities:
- Work both in an office and field environment supporting the management of construction activities for aerial, buried & underground fiber optic cable facilities
- Working on-site with the crews daily (in varied weather conditions)
- Ensuring correct depths of facilities, placement, takes sequential numbers (numbers every two feet stamped into cabling), and that the correct number of pedestals/handholes, among other things, are installed and in the desired locations
- Measure and record installed quantities on a regular basis in coordination with multiple construction crews
- Manage and drive quality standards in accordance with project specifications.
- Operate and maintain field equipment and tools such as GNSS surveying unit, laptop, height stick, camera, personal protective equipment (PPE), etc.
- Communicate effectively and daily with project managers, engineers, drafters and administrative personnel
- Perform administrative tasks as required
- Identify construction conflicts or proposed changes and develop solutions in conjunction with design engineers and project manager
- Providing quality control to ensure construction/engineering standards/specifications are adhered to; and
- Interacting with landowners, permit agencies, as well as other company departments
- may be required to perform other tasks as assigned by manager.
- Individual must be available to mobilize when scheduled and must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) dating back 7 years.
- Ability to work in adverse settings and climatic conditions
- Skilled at managing assigned tasks with little supervision
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, walk, move, lift, and carry equipment (>20lb) for the duration of the workday
- Basic knowledge of telecommunication and/or electrical distribution systems, engineering principles, constructability and design standards is a plus
- Must be able to read schematics, maps, and work prints (staking sheets)
- Previous experience with GIS, CAD or LiDar is a plus but not required.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, strong organizational skills, high level of integrity, and strong team player.
- Communicate ideas for improving field processes with a positive and constructive attitude, and for developing this attitude in others.
- Keeps the project manager informed about project status and issues regarding constructability and progress as well as issues that could affect client relations.
- Travel is required up to 80%.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
