Responsibilities
The Laboratory Assistant works within compliance and regulatory parameters while completing the receipt, registration, order entry and labeling of a large volumes of specimens in the appropriate computer system. In addition, the position may include accountabilities as resolving specimen submission issues, managing a large volume of telephone calls, filing and distribution of patient information, maintaining logs and scanning documents into the electronic medical record. If applicable, may be responsible for operating and performing regular preventative maintenance and basic trouble shooting on a variety of departmental instruments and may require the acquired knowledge of esoteric test requests by physicians and involve order entry and processing of these specimens including assisting with specimen handling at FNA and biopsy procedures. All aspects of this position must be performed with complete accuracy due to the direct impact on patient care. The laboratory assistant works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.
