Upper School Physics Teacher
Tower Hill School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Upper School Physics Teacher beginning in August of 2025. The ideal candidate will have a broad academic background in the sciences and the ability to teach Physics and is responsible for delivering scientific content in an engaging and meaningful way in line with the mission and goals of Tower Hill School. The candidate should have a passion for science and a demonstrated interest in helping students discover the joy of scientific inquiry and analytic thinking. This is a full-time, benefitted, 10-month position.
The science curriculum at Tower Hill goes beyond the traditional textbook and incorporates real-life examples, hands-on and inquiry-based experimentation to fully engage the interdisciplinary nature of Physics. We seek a teacher who can build on this existing foundation. The science department at Tower Hill holds fundamental a willingness and ability to differentiate challenging topics for a wide variety of learners; a deep understanding of research design and principles including lab development; support for diversity, inclusion, and equity in science teaching; and a commitment to the core belief that all students are capable of meaningful scientific understanding given the correct tools and support.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach four sections of Upper School Physics, currently split into four semester courses of mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and modern physics
- Work with other science teachers to develop and implement hands-on, student-centered laboratory investigations in line with the science curriculum
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to implement horizontally aligned curriculum across sections
- Interact with parents and maintain an open dialogue with families to support student success
- Serve as an advisor to 8-10 students in the Upper School
- Create lessons that meet students where they are
- Engage fully with the THS community including, but not limited to, participation in all school-wide assemblies, faculty meetings, department meetings, and various faculty supervisory duties
- Demonstrate competency with current teaching technology and an interest in advancing its use in the classroom
- Engage with student life or athletics, experience and interest in coaching robotics is a plus
Qualifications and Skills:
- B.S in Physics or related field
- Demonstrated interest in teaching high school aged students, growth mindset and willingness to engage in self-reflective teaching practice
- Demonstrated chemical safety/laboratory experience
- Commitment to broad participation in school life
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of students
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
- Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching
- Ability to plan and organize educational content
- Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
- Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children
