We are looking for a passionate, strategic, and results-oriented Director of Development to help lead and elevate our efforts in animal welfare.
Position Overview:
The Director of Development will be responsible for leading the development and execution of fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies that will drive the organization’s growth and mission success. This role will also serve as the primary leader for human resources and staff development, ensuring that the team is supported and aligned with organizational goals. The Director of Development will report to/ and work closely with the Board of Directors to implement strategies that maximize revenue and build sustainable relationships with supporters. This position will work in a supervisory role to other positions such as the Volunteer Coordinator, Office manager, and Event Planner.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Staff Development & Human Resources Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop employees and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability.
- Develop and implement training and professional development opportunities to grow staff skills and strengthen organizational capacity.
- Oversee the Volunteer Coordinator and provide leadership for the volunteer program including setting goals for volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention.
- Oversee HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and retention, ensuring a positive and inclusive workplace.
- Work closely with senior leadership to build a strong, mission-driven team culture.
2. Fundraising & Financial Strategies:
- Develop a program cultivating strong donor relationships and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure individual, corporate, and community support.
- Lead and execute fundraising campaigns, major gift solicitations, planned giving programs, and grant writing efforts.
- Establish annual fundraising goals, track progress, and create reports to monitor success and identify areas for improvement.
- Identify new revenue opportunities, including partnerships, sponsorships, grants, and other innovative giving programs.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process by providing projections for fundraising income, outlining anticipated resource requirements for HR development, facilities and animal welfare. Working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure fiscal health and long-term sustainability through diversified funding sources.
3. Marketing & Communications:
- Oversee the organization’s marketing and communication strategies to raise awareness of Town and Country Animal Rescue’s mission and activities.
- Lead the creation and implementation of digital and traditional marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including social media, email newsletters, and the organization’s website.
- Manage the production of high-quality content for fundraising appeals, donor communications, and community/public outreach.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media partners, community organizations, and key influences to expand the organization’s reach and visibility.
- Provide oversight for the organization at events, community meetings, and other opportunities to enhance Town and Country’s presence and advocacy efforts.
4. Board and Community Engagement:
- Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing strategic insights and progress reports on fundraising and community engagement efforts.
- Collaborate with the Board and volunteers to develop key relationships and identify potential donors and supporters.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and the community, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring the organization’s work is widely recognized and supported.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing, communications, or a related field (advanced certifications or degrees a plus).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor stewardship, including experience in major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, and events.
- Strong marketing and communications skills, with experience in digital media, public relations, and content creation.
- Experience in human resources management and staff development, with a strong understanding of nonprofit HR practices.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment with a history of successfully managing change processes and an passion for motivating future development.
- Passion for animal welfare and the mission of Town and Country Animal Rescue.
