What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Technician position at Town & Country Veterinary Clinic?
We are looking for a veterinary assistant at Town and Country Veterinary Clinic for up to 40 hours. Animal experience is REQUIRED. Kennel experience preferred. Must be available three days during the week and weekends at minimum. Pay based on experience.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties include but not limited to :
- Release animals to their owners as directed by the doctor; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed prior to their release
- Communicate with owners and make them feel comfortable with leaving their pet(s) in our care
- Follow a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing all cages, runs, wards and related areas; change litter boxes and food/water bowls
- Feed each animal as prescribed by the attending doctor and record appetites
- Maintain laundry for the kennel, grooming and hospital
- Collect urine and fecal specimens
- Recognize and report any unusual condition or abnormal behavior
- Assist Doctors and Technicians with the administration of medications or with patient restraint
- Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital each day
- Understand and carry out the weekly and monthly housekeeping list to maintain the hospital cleanliness, the equipment and overall appearance of the hospital
- Assist with ensuring all supplies are on hand and ready for use
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be 18 years of age
- High School diploma or in the process of attaining
- Animal care background desirable
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain
- Ability to work unaffected in an environment where dogs are barking
- Available to work weekends and holidays to be considered for an animal care attendant position
- Ability to lift and carry animals and food bags up to 40 lbs
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
