What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Dispatcher position at Town of Acton, MA?
The Town of Acton is seeking to fill two full-time Dispatch positions. The Dispatch team works under the direction of the Dispatch Supervisor. Effective July 1, 2025 Dispatchers will work a 4:2 schedule
Duties: Answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service; Dispatch Police, Fire, EMS, and other emergency and non-emergency units and personnel as needed. Provide pre-arrival instruction for emergency medical dispatch. Monitor and operate radios, computers, telephones, alarms, cameras, and other specialized equipment as necessary following established procedures and policies. Enter, update, and retrieve information from local, state, and national computerized systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD). Conduct inquires, validations and modifications as required. Work effectively and efficiently under stressful situations. Assist citizens at the public window, perform prisoner watch duties, and perform other related duties.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency and two years of work experience. Proficient computer skills required to process records and information. Ability to multi-task under high pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Hours will vary; applicant must be available 24/7 for night, weekend and holiday hours. Position requires Dispatch Assessment Test, medical examination, including hearing and drug tests, the ability to pass a background check and a psychological evaluation. Successful candidate must complete the Dispatch Training Programs.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in accurately assessing and processing emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance. Experience in maintaining accurate records, organizing and prioritizing work, and the ability to take direction and work independently. Possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Previous experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
Pay Rate: Starting salary: $26.85 - $31.92/hr. ($55,861.00 -$66,401.14 annual), plus evening and overnight $2.00/hr shift differential.
